I've divided Yosemite into three areas: the Valley Floor itself, and the East and West side. The three 'Pines' campgrounds in the valley itself are the only ones where you can wake up to see the grandeur of the cliffs themselves. Consequently they are popular beyond their capacity in the summer months.
The West side has the Wawona and Cran Flat campgrounds, beautiful in their own right and a fairly short drive from the Valley. As such they serve as overflow campground for Yosemite. Tuolumne Meadows, in the East side, is further out and really its own experience, with impressive lakes and domes.

North Pines Camping Reservations
North Pines Campground has opened for the 2009 season!North Pines Campground is located in Yosemite National Park in Central California at 4000 feet in elevation in Yosemite Valley. Yosemite Valley contains many of the features the Yosemite National Park is famous for. North Pines is one of the three reservation campgrounds in Yosemite Valley. All three reservation campgrounds (Upper, Lower, and North Pines) are located next to one another so the distance between campgrounds and other facilities is not a factor in determining which campground to choose. There are no electric, water, or sewer hook-ups available at individual campsites, although a dump station is located on site. The valley campgrounds can accommodate tents or RVs. Pets are permitted in family sites (they must be on a 6' leash and may not be left unattended). For more park information call (209)372-0200, or visit www.nps.gov/yose.
